A small Hobart tax practice, for individuals and small business.
I'm Ross Addison. For the past twelve years I've been preparing tax returns, BAS and books for Tasmanians — working quietly out of a small office on Davey Street. Most of my clients have been with me for years, and I'd like to think they stay because I actually pick up the phone.
The work I do — and roughly what it costs.
Individual tax returns
Personal returns lodged properly, including rental properties, share portfolios and side income. I'll ask the questions most people don't think to ask, and send you a draft to review before anything is lodged.
Sole traders & small business
End-of-year returns, quarterly BAS, and the advice that goes with it. I work with tradies, consultants, cafés and shops — mostly single-operator or small partnership businesses turning over under a couple of million.
BAS & GST
Quarterly or monthly activity statements prepared, checked and lodged by the due date. If your bookkeeping needs a tidy up first, I can do that too.
Bookkeeping
Xero or MYOB set up, maintained, or cleaned up after someone else. Bank reconciliations, payroll support, and month-end reports that you can read without a translator.
Four steps, no surprise fees.
Say hello
Call or email. We'll have a short chat about what you need, and I'll give you a plain-English estimate of the fee.
Send your paperwork
Upload to the secure client portal, drop in at the office, or post it. Whatever suits you — I'll let you know what's still missing.
I do the work
I prepare the return or BAS, check it twice, and send a draft for you to look over. Nothing is lodged until you're happy.
Lodge & follow up
Once approved, I lodge with the ATO and walk you through the result. If there's a payment plan or refund, I'll sort the next steps.
Hi, I'm Ross — a small practice by design.
I grew up in Lindisfarne, studied commerce at UTAS, and spent my first eight years at a mid-sized Hobart firm working with small business clients. In 2018 I struck out on my own because I wanted to keep dealing with the same people year after year — something that gets harder the larger a practice grows.
My clients these days are tradies from Glenorchy, consultants working from home offices in Sandy Bay, cafés in Battery Point, and a few dozen families scattered across the state. I keep the books small on purpose. You'll always deal with me directly, I'll remember your situation between calls, and I'll tell you honestly when something's worth doing — and when it isn't.
If you're new to Tasmania, behind on a few years' returns, or just tired of explaining yourself to a different junior every year, get in touch. The first conversation is free, and I'll be straight with you about whether I'm the right fit.
Things people tend to ask.
Either works. Most individual returns are handled by email or through the secure portal — you send me your documents and I send a draft back, usually within a week. If you'd rather sit down and talk it through, I keep appointment slots Tuesday through Thursday.
Straightforward individual returns start at $180. If you've got a rental property, shares, or run a sole-trader business, it depends on the complexity. I'll always quote up front before I start, and the fee is itemised on your invoice.
Yes — more common than you'd think. I can lodge prior-year returns back to 2014 and deal with the ATO on any penalties. The first step is a quick call so I can see what's outstanding.
Plenty. I've got clients in Launceston, the Huon Valley, Devonport, and a handful on the mainland. Everything can be handled remotely through the secure portal, phone and video calls.
Yes. I'm a Registered Tax Agent (TPB #12345-678) and a member of CPA Australia. I carry professional indemnity insurance and keep my CPD current every year.
